Gallants Eying Move For Free Agent Happy Mashiane?
Happy Mashiane has been linked with a move to Marumo Gallants while training with ABC Motsepe League outfit Tembisa Destroyers to keep himself fit, the Siya crew has been told.
Gallants are in the market for a left-back and are considering the former Kaizer Chiefs defender, who remains a free agent after failing to secure a deal following his departure from Naturena.
As previously reported by the Siya crew in July, Stellenbosch FC opted against signing Mashiane after a pre-season trial. Coach Gavin Hunt, who previously worked with the player at Chiefs, cited lack of match fitness as the key factor behind the decision.
“Happy hasn’t played football for four or five years. It was difficult to take him. He is out of touch, you know. Hadn’t played in a long time, condition wasn’t good,” Hunt told media at the time.
The 28-year-old has since been spotted training with Tembisa Destroyers, an ABC Motsepe League club based in his hometown. Mashiane, who came through the development structures at Amakhosi, is understood to be using the lower-league setup to maintain fitness while awaiting a professional contract.
Siya sources have now indicated that Gallants are weighing up a move for the left-back as they look to strengthen their defensive options.
The link makes sense for both parties. Gallants require depth in that position and Mashiane, as a free agent, represents a no-fee option. For the player, joining a PSL club would offer the platform needed to rebuild a career that stalled after being sent off in the 2021 CAF Champions League final.

Mashiane spent last season on loan at Siwelele but was not a regular in Lehlohonolo Seema’s plans, making just a handful of appearances.
If the information obtained is anything to go by, Gallants will assess whether the player has done enough to maintain his fitness levels before making a final decision on a potential contract offer.
