Namibian Club Welcomes South African Signing Amid CAFCL Hopes

Namibian outfit African Stars FC have announced the signing of South African defender Lyema Dopolo, describing his presence as a much-needed boost as the side looks to secure a place in the CAF Champions League.

Before leaving SuperSport United in 2025 after rising through the side’s youth ranks, Dopolo joined Ongos last season and made quite the impression in Namibia.
His performances caught the eye of African Stars, who confirmed the signing on their social media platforms.
“African Stars FC is proud to announce the signing of South African international and former FC Ongos captain, Lyema Dopolo,” the statement read.
“A leader on and off the pitch, Lyema brings experience, strength and defensive prowess to the Samba Boys. His presence will be a much-needed boost as we gear up for the CAF Champions League.”

The side will be hopeful of the centre-back boosting them on both the domestic and continental fronts, as they look to retain their status as current Namibia Premiership champions.
African Stars clinched their fourth consecutive league title and ninth overall in April 2026, finishing top of the table with 58 points from 16 wins, 10 draws and four losses — edging out runners-up Eeshoke Chulachula by a single point.
By winning the league, African Stars secured Namibia’s sole qualification spot for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
The Samba Boys have been drawn against Gabonese side AS Mangasport in the first preliminary round, where Dopolo’s defensive experience will be put to the test on the continental stage.
