Duba’s 18-Minute Hat-Trick Gets Chiefs Firing Before Derby
Kaizer Chiefs progressed to the Carling Knockout quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

Brandon Petersen and Lebohang Maboe returned to the Chiefs line-up after Friday’s CAF Confederation Cup exit, while Rushwin Dortley made his first start for the club since 2024 alongside Thabo Moloisane as Inacio Miguel dropped out.
Galaxy looked to make their presence count early on, with a couple of players leaving their mark on Wandile Duba in the opening 15 minutes, but the Chiefs striker nearly got the opening goal when he was slipped through on goal and fired just wide of the upright.
The Soweto giants were the dominant side for most of the first half, with Mduduzi Shabalala and Duba seeing a lot of the ball in the opening 25 minutes as the latter forced Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Mathebula into a fine save with a strike from distance.
Galaxy, however, nearly bagged the opening goal against the run of play on the stroke of halftime via a swift counter-attack but Thulani Zandemela’s shot from just inside the box lacked the power to beat Petersen.
Chiefs needed just three minutes to get the breakthrough in the second half when the lively Duba found the back of the net by turning home a cross from Pule Mmodi.
It got better for the Soweto giants on the hour mark after being awarded a penalty for Veluyeke Zulu’s clumsy challenge on Shabalala. Mfundo Vilakazi stepped up and saw his spot-kick saved by Mathebula, but Duba reacted quickest and fired home the rebound.
The day belonged to Duba, who completed his hat-trick in the 65th minute by latching onto a through-ball by Shabalala and calmly slotting into the far corner to hand the home side a three-goal advantage and put Galaxy out of their misery.
