Pressure Mounts On Moloto As Polokwane City Back Him

Polokwane City remain in support of head coach Willy Moloto despite mounting pressure following the club’s difficult start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.
Rise and Shine suffered another setback over the weekend when they lost 1-0 to Siwelele FC, who secured their first league victory of the season in their eighth match.
The result added to the concerns surrounding City’s start to the campaign, with the Limpopo outfit having managed just one win in their opening eight league matches.
They currently occupy 11th position on the standings as they look to find consistency.
Despite the disappointing results, indications are that the club continues to back Moloto as he works to turn the situation around.
The coach took charge ahead of the new season following the unexpected departure of Phuti Mohafe, who left the club to join fellow topflight side Marumo Gallants before subsequently parting ways with the now Rustenburg-based outfit.
Moloto’s appointment marked a return to familiar surroundings, having previously served as co-coach alongside Innocent Mayoyo during the 2021/22 season.
He also has experience working with the club’s DStv Diski Challenge setup.
His familiarity with the club and its structures would have been among the considerations when he was handed the senior coaching role, although the immediate challenge has been to get the team producing consistent results.
With pressure inevitably increasing as the league campaign progresses, the coming fixtures could prove important in determining whether City can begin climbing the standings.
Moloto’s side will have an immediate opportunity to respond when they face Siwelele again this weekend, this time in the Carling Knockout Cup, as the competition gets underway.
The match will be played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, giving Rise and Shine a chance to respond to their recent league disappointment.

City will then turn their attention back to the league, where they are scheduled to host TS Galaxy at the same venue on October 31.
The two fixtures offer Moloto an opportunity to build momentum and ease some of the pressure surrounding his position, with the club looking to ensure that their difficult start does not define their campaign.
