SAPU KZN condemns alleged police officer murder:

The South African Policing Union (SAPU) in KwaZulu-Natal has strongly condemned the fatal shooting of a female SAPS constable attached to Tongaat Police Station, allegedly by her boyfriend, who is also a police officer.

The incident reportedly followed an argument in Chesterville, within the Cato Manor policing precinct.

The constable was found dead with gunshot wounds, while the suspect was found with a gunshot wound in an apparent suicide attempt. He was taken to hospital and remains under police guard.

SAPU described the killing as another tragic example of South Africa’s gender-based violence (GBV) crisis, stressing that even law enforcement officers are not immune.

The union called for a thorough investigation and swift prosecution, urging SAPS and the National Prosecuting Authority to ensure those responsible face the full might of the law.

The union extended condolences to the officer’s family, friends and colleagues, reaffirmed its support for the “One Million Voices Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, and called for stronger action and accountability to end GBV, saying: “Enough is enough.”
