Man Robbed After Dispute Over Sex Worker Payment: Verulam CBD – KZN

A man was allegedly robbed following a dispute over payment for sexual services in Verulam CBD – KZN today (Saturday, 25/07/2026).

The 22 year old arrived at the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters claiming that he had been robbed by a group of females. Reaction Officers accompanied him to the bushes next to the railway line near Gandhi Park in Verulam CBD – KZN where further enquiries established that the initial account was false.

The man later admitted that he had withheld the true circumstances out of embarrassment. He explained that he had approached a female Prostitute and agreed to pay her R50 for sexual services before they proceeded to the over grown vegetation next to the railway line.

According to the man, neither party had protection, however they agreed to proceed. After the encounter, the female demanded R100 instead of the agreed R50 due to protection not being used. He agreed to pay the increased amount, however she noticed that he was carrying a large amount of cash and increased her demand to R200. He refused to pay the additional amount and walked away without making any payment.

The female then called out for assistance. Two (2) males, believed to be known to her and described as drug users, approached the man and allegedly robbed him of approximately R2,000 before fleeing on foot. He stated that the cash was intended for transport and groceries. The suspects fled with the money without paying the Prostitute her share.
Reaction Officers searched the area for the suspects, however no arrests were made.
