Nedbank Cup champions plot January swoop for Gallants midfielder Ndlondlo

2026 Nedbank Cup champions Durban City FC have not lost hope in signing one of Marumo Gallants’ influential players, despite failing in their initial pursuit.

The Citizens tried to sign Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo from Marumo Gallants ahead of the 2026/27 season, but the deal failed to materialise. The club had targeted the midfielder to add depth to their squad as they prepared for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Because Ndlondlo’s contract expires at the end of the current season, Durban City decided to wait and secure the player on a pre-contract rather than pushing for a deal in the last window.

Ndlondlo is having a quiet start to the season, having not registered an assist or scored a goal for Marumo Gallants, despite remaining a focal point of the club’s tactical setup — a dip in output that has done little to deter the KwaZulu-Natal outfit’s interest.

According to a reliable source, Durban City have not lost interest in Ndlondlo and will make another move in January 2027, when the next transfer window opens.

“Even in their initial meeting, the club told the player not to panic, as they will be coming back to renegotiate for him; figures were discussed, but there was no conclusion,” a source told KickOff.

“This is Ndlondlo’s last season at Marumo Gallants; he will be free to sign for a club of his choice since he will be left with less than six months on his contract.”

With the midfielder free to negotiate with any suitor come January, it appears Durban City are content to play the long game — biding their time before swooping for a player they have had firmly in their sights since the beginning of the campaign.
