The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the sentencing of three illegal miners to 20 years imprisonment each by the Polokwane Regional Court in Limpopo.

Tshepo Mashaba, Antonio Gumbane and Koena Selatole were convicted of illegal mining-related offences, including the possession of precious metals and conducting mining activities without the required authorisation.

A Mozambican national, Gumbane, was also sentenced to six months imprisonment for contravening the Immigration Act, which will run concurrently with the other sentence.
