ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa promises jobs for South Africans of all ages; citizens question the pledge
ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has made a renewed commitment to job creation, promising employment opportunities for South Africans across all age groups. The pledge comes as the country continues to grapple with high unemployment rates and economic uncertainty.
The national executive, Parliament and our courts are mandated to serve the South African people and give effect to the promise of the Constitution. This must be our overriding priority.
Despite the President’s assurances that economic growth and job creation remain the top priorities for the 2026/27 financial year, many citizens have expressed skepticism regarding the feasibility of these promises. Critics point to ongoing challenges such as rising inflation, the cost of living, and the impact of global supply chain disruptions as significant hurdles that may undermine the government’s efforts.
The ANC’s strategy includes a focus on apprenticeships, learnerships, and graduate internships, particularly within ANC-led municipalities. However, with the party facing increased pressure to deliver tangible results, the public remains cautious about whether these initiatives will lead to sustainable, long-term employment for the broader population.
