Fourteen people have been shot – with at least eleven dead – in KwaMakhutha, Durban
Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt for suspects who allegedly shot and killed eleven people and injured three others during a shooting incident which happened at Ziko area in KwaMakhutha on Tuesday night, 22 September 2026.
Information available at this stage suggests that thirteen men and one woman were inside a house in the Ziko area when they were attacked by unknown gunmen who opened fire on them. Ten people were declared dead at the scene, while another victim died on the way to the hospital. Three other victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Police said some of the victims were on their watch in connection with illegal activities, which they could not “divulge at the moment to protect investigations which have been launched”. While the motive of the shooting has not yet been confirmed, the police said they could not rule out a “feud between rival groupings”.
The attackers also set fire to a car belonging to one of the victims before fleeing. Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
