Mofokeng facing Tau marker in Belgian Pro League start

After Royale Union Saint-Gilloise forward Relebohile Mofokeng scored on his Belgian Pro League debut, KickOff compares the Bafana Bafana midfielder’s start to other South African attackers before him in the league.
Mofokeng could not have dreamt of a better start to life in the Belgian Pro League, after he came off the bench to score Union’s third goal in a 5-1 thrashing of Westerlo, in the league’s opener.
The former Orlando Pirates attacker continued where he left off after netting an audacious winning penalty to help his side lift the Belgian Super Cup for the first time, against rivals Club Brugge.

The onus will be on the 21-year-old to emulate Percy Tau, who scored in his first two matches in Belgium’s top flight at the beginning of the 2018/19 season while on loan at Club Brugge, first in a 6-0 hammering of Sint Truiden and again in a 2-0 victory over KV Oostende.
Tau, actually scored on his debut once again after he went out on loan to Anderlecht in the 2020/21 campaign, in a 3-1 win over Truiden.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly forward’s two seasons in the Belgian Pro, could be a marker of Mofokeng’s performances, after ‘The Lion of Judah’ overall scored seven goals and had five assists in 32 matches, across two seasons, with two different teams on loan, as mentioned above.

Shandre Campbell scored on his second appearance for Club Brugge in the Jupiler Pro for the 2024/25 season, netting the only goal in a win over Zulte Waregem, although his debut was only for the last five minutes and he featured for only seven minutes towards the end but managed to get his first goal.
That proved to be the only goal for Campbell, who has featured in only 12 top flight league matches across three seasons, including his debut for new club Kortrijk in the current campaign, the same club where Cassius Mailula played for only three games, without goals, during their 2025/26 season in the second division.
