Kenny Kunene claims Julius Malema had close ties with notorious taxi boss Mswazi and KT Molefe

Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president Kenny Kunene has alleged that Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema maintained close personal ties with the late notorious taxi boss Jotham “Mswazi” Msibi and Katiso “KT” Molefe.

These claims, which surfaced during public discourse and social media commentary, form part of a broader set of allegations linking Malema to figures associated with the so-called “Big Five” cartel. Kunene has suggested that these relationships extend beyond professional interactions, positioning Malema within a network of individuals accused of involvement in organized crime.

Malema has vehemently denied these allegations, characterizing them as defamatory and part of a smear campaign. The EFF leader has initiated legal action against Kunene, seeking R1 million in damages for the claims made during podcast appearances and public statements. Malema maintains that his interactions with figures like Msibi were related to legitimate industry matters and has rejected any suggestion that he is at the center of a criminal cartel.

The allegations have gained traction following testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where various witnesses have been questioned regarding the influence of certain business figures on political leadership. While Malema has confirmed attending Msibi’s funeral, he insists that such actions do not constitute evidence of criminal association or participation in illicit activities.
