A large crowd has braved windy conditions at Cape Town’s Sea Point Promenade for a pro-Palestine rally.

She attended alongside former British MP George Galloway as part of their South African People Power Tour.

Ridley says international attitudes towards the conflict are shifting and believes that momentum is growing in support of the Palestinian cause.

“To all our dear beloved Palestinian people around the world, the brother before me mentioned October the 7th, and people say to me, ‘What does October the 7th mean to you?’ Well, it takes me right back to 25 years ago, when I was first captured by the Taliban, and I was told it was the most brutal regime in the world then. October the 7th, 2026, was the day that I was in custody in Israel,” says Ridley.

Galloway has also called for continued support for Palestinians during a rally in Cape Town.

The pair are visiting South Africa as part of their People Power Tour, which includes a series of events focused on the conflict in Gaza and support for Palestinians.

Speaking to the crowd, Galloway drew comparisons between South Africa’s struggle against apartheid and the Palestinian cause.

“The bagpipes and drums that led us today, we saw everything in the illumination of the lighthouse; we saw everything through Nelson Mandela’s spectacles; we saw Robben Island, the most infamous dastardly prison in the world, except Gaza, except Jerusalem, except Palestine, which is an even more evil prison (for the past eight decades),” he said.
