Who is feared Taxi Boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni that was just arrested by SAPS
Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni is one of Mpumalanga’s most influential taxi industry figures, known for building a transport empire.
He started working as a taxi driver in Kwaggafontein in 1985 and later bought his first taxi in 1995.
Over the years, he expanded his operations into a fleet believed to consist of more than 400 minibus taxis, making him one of the most prominent operators in South Africa’s transport sector.
His business empire reportedly includes taxis, buses, logistics operations, property investments and other ventures.
Beyond transport, Sibanyoni has diversified into industries such as mining, construction, IT and property development.
Sibanyoni also plays a leading role in the taxi industry and has previously held influential positions within taxi bodies such as SANTACO and SABTA.
His influence in the sector has made him a powerful figure in transport and business circles, particularly in Mpumalanga.
Known by the nickname “Ferrari” because of his love for luxury and high-performance sports cars, he often speaks about his journey from poverty to becoming a multi-millionaire entrepreneur.
In 2024, he launched the Joe Sibanyoni Foundation, aimed at addressing poverty, unemployment and inequality.
He was arrested overnight. His name came up at the Madlanga Commission a number of times. He has been linked to Vusi “Cat” Matlala.
