Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has suggested that the South African government should bill Zimbabwe for the costs associated with the healthcare services provided to Zimbabwean nationals in South African hospitals.

We must bill the Zimbabwean government for every Zimbabwean who is treated in our hospitals. We cannot be a charity organization for a country that has failed its own people.

Malema made these remarks during a recent public address, emphasizing that South Africa’s resources are being strained by the influx of foreign nationals seeking medical care. He argued that the Zimbabwean government should be held accountable for the welfare of its citizens, even when they are outside the country’s borders.

If they want to come here, they must pay. We are not a dumping ground for the failures of other governments. Our own people are struggling to get access to quality healthcare, and we cannot prioritize others at their expense.

The EFF leader’s comments have sparked a debate regarding the country’s immigration and healthcare policies, with some supporting his stance on fiscal responsibility while others have raised concerns about the humanitarian implications of such a policy.
