Walter Mokoena draws the line on Swallows Steering Committee

After the Dube Birds Supporters and Shareholders Steering Committee released a statement seeking answers from former sports broadcaster and businessman Walter Mokoena, KickOff has the other side of the story from the newly-formed Moroka Swallows SC.

The Steering Committee, who were responsible for ‘Bring Back The Birds’ project, formed two years ago, where they rallied support and lobbied for sponsorships and investments to revive the club, expressed disappointment that they were not consulted and revealed that they are not party to the new establishment announced by Mokoena.

The statement indicated that they are seeking engagements with the former SABC sports broadcaster after appointing a “fact-finding delegation” to get clarity on how they fit into the fabric and future of the club.

“The Steering Committee has resolved to establish a fact-finding delegation to seek an urgent engagement with Mr Walter Mokoena and representatives of Moroka Swallows SC,” the statement read in part.

This website reached out to Mokoena through Swallows legend Steve Sekano, who revealed the former’s stance that he does not recognize the Supporters and Shareholders Steering Committee.

“I can tell you now we’re part of that team, because he called all the legends, myself, Ace Mnini, Andries Mpondo, to say ‘Guys this is what I’m doing, I want you here because you are the legends of the team, I want you to come on board so we work together,” Sekano told KickOff.

“I just got off a call with Walter now, he says ‘what is he going to say’? The Steering Committee, who are they, because they were given a task to bring back Moroka Swallows but they did not do that. Walter did this by himself.

“He says what is he going to say with the Steering Committee, because he does not know the Steering Committee, nobody introduced Steering Committee to him. He does not know the Steering Committee,” Sekano relayed the message after reaching out to Mokoena on behalf of this website.
