Mamelodi Sundowns moved level on points with Betway Premiership leaders Orlando Pirates with a 2-0 win over Milford FC at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night.

Brazilians coach Miguel Cardoso rang the changes after the weekend’s MTN8 action, as Iqraam Rayners, Bennet Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas and Antonio van Wyk were restored to the starting line-up.
Milford were hoping to fare better than fellow newly-promoted side Kruger United, who were thrashed 4-0 by Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night, but Dr. Xanti Pupuma showed no desire to have his side sit back and defend from the onset as they competed quite well in the opening 15 minutes.
Sundowns, meanwhile, were finding it tough to carve out chances in opposition box as the first half, calling a need for patience in their approach, with the young Bennett Mokoena going closest with a strike from distance that sailed just over the crossbar.
Loftus Versfeld was nearly stunned into silence with five minutes left in the half when Thabang Mabena latched onto a superb ball over the top to go into the box, but the Milford forward was denied by a brilliant intervention by Ronwen Williams, who took one for the team with his face.
However, all of Milford’s good work was undone in first-half stoppage time when Aubrey Modiba robbed possession on the byline before picking out Rayners, who fired home from the rebound after his first-time strike was saved.

The Brazilians started the second half on a sour note as right-back Zuko Mdunyelwa was forced off ten minutes after the break, which is more bad news for the hosts after already losing Khuliso Mudau to a season-ending injury.
The visitors were unable to sustain their approach in the second half as the fatigue seemingly creeped in, with the players committing a number of fouls in the middle of the park, a couple of which looked to have left a mark on substitute Teboho Mokoena.
Sundowns eventually got the two-goal cushion with 15 minutes left on the clock when Aubrey Modiba turned provider to play in Van Wyk, who sent a calm first-time finish into the back of the net for his first league goal of the campaign.
The game did get a little scrappy in the latter stages, with Milford leaving in some late tackles while Cebolenkosi Mthethwa was lucky not to see a red card for elbowing Marcelo Allende in the face as the Brazilians were able to see out the clash to claim the win and their second clean-sheet of the season.
