Twenty-four injured as bakkies overturn in separate N2 accidents today

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to two separate, collisions on the N2 highway today, involving a total of 24 patients.

Both incidents involved bakkies carrying passengers that lost control and overturned.

? Incident 1 :
N2 and R34 Intersection, Empangeni

This afternoon, our medical team responded to the N2 at the R34 junction near Empangeni. A bakkie, transporting passengers and wedding gifts from Bhukhanana to Mandlazini, lost control and overturned multiple times. Advanced Paramedics assessed 11 adult patients on the scene. Three individuals sustained serious injuries, including spinal trauma and fractures, while eight others suffered minor injuries. One lane of the N2 was closed for approximately one hour to allow for stabilization and transport.

? Incident 2:
N2 near Paddock, South Coast
Earlier today at 10h30, our medical team attended a similar rollover on the N2 outside Paddock. A bakkie transporting passengers lost control and overturned. Upon arrival, Advanced Paramedics found 13 patients requiring urgent care. One patient had sustained critical chest and head injuries, nine patients suffered serious injuries, and three sustained minor injuries. The scene remained active for two hours, resulting in a one-lane closure.

?In both instances, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Fire Department provided essential support. The cause of both accidents remains under investigation by local authorities.

All patients were stabilized by the medical team before being transported to various hospitals for further specialized care.
