Top Cop Arrested For Allegedly Stealing R50,000 In
A 44-year-old administration clerk attached to the Phalaborwa Police Station finance section has been charged with theft after more than R50 000 allegedly disappeared from a police safe.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the charge stems from a routine financial inspection conducted by the Limpopo Provincial Finance Unit at the Phalaborwa police finance section on October 30, 2025.
Police allege that during the inspection, officials requested access to a safe for cash reconciliation purposes. Upon opening the safe, inspectors allegedly discovered that cash that should have been accounted for was missing.
The matter was referred to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit for investigation.
On June 3, a 44-year-old female Phalaborwa police employee was formally charged with theft. She is expected to appear in the Phalaborwa Magistrate’s Court on June 30.
Limpopo provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the progress in the investigation.
“I commend the Provincial Finance Unit and Anti-Corruption Unit for their swift action in detecting and investigating this matter. This arrest sends a clear message that we hold our employees to the highest standards of integrity especially those entrusted with financial responsibilities” she said.
Police investigations are continuing.
