Eastern Cape Police have made three more arrests in connection with the killing of the former two-division boxing world champion Zolani Tete, putting the total number of people in police custody at four.
Another person who had been taken in for questioning has been released.
The arrests were made in Mdantsane and KuGompo City at the weekend.
Tete was shot dead outside his home in Mdantsane on Friday at the age of 38.
Police Spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana says more arrests are expected.
Gantana says, “The 22-year-old suspect arrested on 22 August 2026 has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder and is scheduled to appear before the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on 24 August 2026.”
She says, “The other three suspects are expected to appear in court soon. The attempted murder charge relates to the 27-year-old female passenger who was wounded in the attack and remains hospitalised.”
