Royale Union Saint-Gilloise star Relebohile Mofokeng looks to be on course to matching Percy Tau’s record during his time with the Belgian club.

Mofokeng made his 14th appearance for Union SG on Sunday, making another significant contribution as his team came from 2-0 down to beat Cercle Brugge 5-2.

During the match, the 22-year-old registered a goal and an assist, with his goal in particular making the headlines.

Mofokeng scored an impressive header, intelligently lobbing the goalkeeper with a perfectly directed effort.

Mofokeng spoke after the match and was asked about his header despite being the shortest player on the pitch.

“I think it’s just on your mind. If the desire is there and the mentality is there, I think you’ll always get the goal,” said Mofokeng in a post match interview.

“I gave my best and I think I just have to do more for my team because the ball is there, I just have to compete for it.”

Notably, Mofokeng now has five goals and four assists in his first 14 appearances for Union SG.

The Bafana Bafana star will have Tau’s Union SG record in his sights.

During his single season on loan with Union SG, Tau registered 13 goals and 13 assists in 35 appearances for the club, according to Transfermarkt.

While Mofokeng still has some way to go to match Tau’s Union SG tally, he is moving at a quicker pace than his compatriot did.

After his first 14 matches for Union SG, Tau had registered just three goals and four assists.
