Swallows Steering Committee seeking answers from Mokoena
Oct 21, 2026 – 06:05 pm
By Thato Bosoga
The Dube Birds Supporters and Shareholders Steering Committee have released a statement following the supposed revival of the club as ‘Moroka Swallows SC’ by former sports broadcaster and businessman Walter Mokoena.
KickOff has it on good authority that the Swallows Supporters and Shareholders Steering Committee are not involved in the new establishment announced by Mokoena and are seeking clarity on the lack of consultation, after initially forming the ‘Bring Back The Birds’ project two years ago.

“The DubeBirds Supporters’ & Shareholders’ Steering Committee (SteerComm) wishes to address supporters, media houses, partners, stakeholders, and the broader football fraternity regarding the recent launch of Moroka Swallows Sports Club,” the organization said in a statement.
“Following a special urgent meeting convened on 19 October 2026, the Steering Committee carefully considered the developments surrounding the establishment of Moroka Swallows Sports Club and its potential implications for supporters and stakeholders who have remained committed to the revival of the club.
“Following the unfortunate demise of Moroka Swallows, supporters united behind the vision of restoring the DubeBirds through a supporter-centred approach. Over the past two years, the Steering Committee, together with its partners and supporters, has worked tirelessly to engage prospective investors and explore sustainable pathways towards reviving the club,” the statement read.
“The announcement of Moroka Swallows Sports Club is undoubtedly a significant development and one that many supporters have long hoped to see. While we welcome any genuine effort aimed at restoring the legacy of Moroka Swallows, we believe that greater engagement and consultation with existing supporter structures could have contributed positively to this process.
“The Steering Committee acknowledges that many supporters have questions regarding the vision, ownership structure, governance model, and role of supporters within the newly formed entity. These are important matters that require clarity and constructive engagement.”
The Steering Committee has also appointed a “fact-finding delegation” for further urgent engagements with Mokoena.
“The Steering Committee has resolved to establish a fact-finding delegation to seek an urgent engagement with Mr Walter Mokoena and representatives of Moroka Swallows Sports Club,” the statement continued.
Gain a clear understanding of the vision and objectives of the new organisation.
Obtain clarity on issues of concern raised by supporters and stakeholders.
“The Steering Committee also offered reassurance to the supporters of Moroka Swallows.
“(The) Committee remains committed to acting in the best interests of supporters while respecting the right of every individual supporter to form their own opinions and make their own decisions,” the statement continued.
“We will continue to engage with our partners, advisers, and prospective investors who have supported the revival journey over the past two years and will keep supporters informed of any significant developments.
“While questions remain, the Steering Committee remains open to constructive, transparent, and respectful dialogue with all parties who share the objective of restoring the legacy and future of Moroka Swallows.
DubeBirds Supporters’ & Shareholders’ Steering Committee (SteerComm).”
