Sundowns snap up highly-rated defender on Deadline Day

Mamelodi Sundowns have completed a PSL transfer window deadline day signing, with KickOff revealing that the Tshwane giants have secured the services of AmaZulu defender Wandile Dube.
As previously reported by this website, Sundowns were engaged in negotiations with AmaZulu over the defender for a potential transfer on deadline day on Monday.
The 22-year-old was subsequently said to have travelled to Johannesburg for his medicals, and after long talks on Monday night, this publication can reveal that the Brazilians completed the signing of the highly-rated left-footed centre-back before the transfer window slammed shut by midnight.
Despite not having a lot of game time in the Betway Premiership at Usuthu, KickOff has been reliably informed that Sundowns concluded a straight transfer of Dube on an initial three-year contract — a move that underlines the club’s belief in the youngster’s long-term potential.
The versatile defender has been tipped to become one of the best defenders to emerge out of the country, playing primarily as a left centre-back and able to also switch to a left-back position — a versatility that will no doubt appeal to head coach Miguel Cardoso.
The 22-year-old was promoted from the Usuthu DStv Diski Challenge squad at the beginning of the 2025/26 season and featured in ten matches in a very competitive AmaZulu team that finished fourth in the Betway Premiership standings.

Usuthu head coach Arthur Zwane has previously described Dube as “a rare breed” but cautioned against throwing him in at the deep end in the early stages of this campaign, where AmaZulu have continued where they left off from last season, occupying fourth position during the first FIFA International break.
The Brazilians have already signed Antonio Van Wyk, Deano Van Rooyen, Cassius Mailula, Thabo Cele, Thabang Matuludi and Siyanda Ndlovu to bolster the squad that is heavily involved on the international stage — making Dube their seventh arrival of the transfer window as Cardoso continues to reshape his squad for the demands of competing on multiple fronts.
