Mamelodi Sundowns’ search for a right-back has intensified, with the Tshwane giants now reportedly turning their attention to a former Orlando Pirates player as an additional option.

The Chloorkop-based side are currently looking for a player to reinforce their defence following the injury to Khuliso Mudau.

The Bafana Bafana international picked up an Achilles tendon injury during a Betway Premiership match against Marumo Gallants last month. He is now set to be out of action for at least six months after undergoing surgery.

Following the injury, head coach Miguel Cardoso has been left with Zuko Mdunyelwa as a natural right-back, with Thapelo Morena and Kegan Johannes as other options to operate in the same position.

According to sources close to the Brazilians, the club is now considering bringing Deano van Rooyen on board before the transfer window deadline on September 21.

“The main target remains Thabang Matuludi, but at the moment, Polokwane City is not willing to sell him,” said a source.

The former Stellenbosch FC man, who recently left Pirates due to a lack of game-time, remains a free agent.
