JOHANNESBURG (AP) — South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced new measures Tuesday to combat gender-based violence following the killing of at least 12 women in the Ekurhuleni area over the past two months.

To the families of the women who have been brutally killed, I say that these cases will not be allowed to go cold.

Speaking during a national address, the President emphasized that the state is mobilizing all available resources to identify those responsible for the string of murders that has gripped the nation. He further urged the public to assist law enforcement, stating, “If you know something, say something.”

Ramaphosa also addressed concerns regarding the reporting of missing persons, clarifying that families do not need to wait 24 hours to report a loved one missing. He stressed the importance of immediate action, noting that only a fraction of the victims found in Ekurhuleni had been reported missing prior to the discovery of their bodies.
