Single Mother Found Strangled After Alleged R*pe
REST IN PEACE: Single Mother Found Strangled After Alleged R*pe💔🕊️
Thobeka was a single mother of two young children living in Diepkloof Zone 6, Soweto, Johannesburg. She was described by her family as an easy-going, outspoken, and loving person who was the “light of the family.”
Thobeka was last seen alive around 9pm. Community reports and family statements indicate she was seen with a man in the area.
She went missing for 2–3 days. Her family grew worried and began searching. Early commuters discovered her lifeless, naked body lying on the pavement in Mhlanga Street, Diepkloof Zone 6. She was found near a bridge/wetland area that had seen previous incidents.
Visible injuries included bruises on her head, stomach, and neck (consistent with strangulation). There were strong indications of sexual assault before she was killed. She was certified dead at the scene.
Police were called to the scene and opened a case of murder. As of the initial reports (mid- July 2026), No arrests have been reported in connection with her rape and murder, although the community and family believed there were eyewitnesses who could identify the person she was last seen with.
Thobeka’s older sister, Mbali Mgqaza, spoke publicly about the family’s pain, especially for the two children left without their mother. The family appealed for justice and better police communication.
My sincere condolences to the children, siblings, and entire family of Thobeka
