Ramaphosa appoints new Western Cape top prosecutor

President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Advocate Nicolette Astraid Bell as the new Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions (DNDPP) for the National Prosecutions Service (NPS), a move aimed at strengthening the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

The appointment, which was announced by the Presidency, is part of a broader effort to bolster the NPA’s capacity to combat crime and restore public confidence in the justice system.

President Ramaphosa wishes Adv Mtengwane and Adv Bell well as they assume their roles in the National Prosecuting Authority’s constitutionally empowered mandate to institute criminal proceedings on behalf of the State.

Advocate Bell is a career prosecutor who brings extensive experience to the role, having joined the prosecution service in 1995. Her appointment is effective immediately under the National Prosecuting Authority Act of 1998.
