President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared that the abuse, rape, and killing of women in South Africa is not part of the country’s heritage. Speaking on the issue of gender-based violence, the President emphasized that such acts of violence are a stain on the nation’s character and contradict the values of equality and respect that the country strives to uphold.

The abuse, rape and killing of women is not our heritage. It is a scourge that we must confront and defeat together as a society.

Ramaphosa called upon all citizens, particularly men, to take responsibility for ending the cycle of violence. He stressed that the fight against gender-based violence and femicide is not merely a women’s issue but a societal crisis that requires urgent and collective action from all sectors of the population.
