PSL coach targets Pirates for redemption after 'bitter' defeat

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane has targeted upcoming opponents Orlando Pirates for redemption after a beating from Sekhukhune United in the MTN8.
Zwane is expecting an immediate response from his charges, insisting they must redeem themselves when they lock horns with defending league champions Orlando Pirates in midweek.
Speaking to SuperSport in his post-match conference after a bitter pill to swallow on Sunday, the tactician lamented his side’s defensive lapses but remained defiant about bouncing back.
Usuthu head into this encounter under immense pressure following a devastating 4-3 defeat to Sekhukhune United at Chatsworth Stadium, which dumped them out of the MTN8 quarterfinals.
“Now we have Pirates, we’ve got to redeem ourselves,” Zwane said following the defeat.
“It’s not going to be an easy one, and we’re playing against a Pirates team that won at the weekend.
“So we’ve got to make sure that now the players do the right things in terms of recovery, and they eat well and drink a lot of water, so that they can be fully recovered when the time comes.”
Prior to the weekend’s match, Usuthu last conceded four against the very same Babina Noko in February 2025.
“We conceded four goals. It’s unlike us. We are not a team that does that easily, you know, conceding goals like this. And yeah, hopefully we will learn from this one and rectify those mistakes,” Zwane added.
The Durban-based outfit currently sits 6th on the Betway Premiership table after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC in their lone league fixture so far. However, keeping momentum will be a mountain to climb as they prepare to face a rampant Sea Robbers side.
Pirates occupy 2nd position on the log and come into this fixture in sparkling form, having confidently won their opening league match to maintain an unbeaten league run, before booking an MTN8 semifinal spot with an extra-time win over Durban City.
This highly anticipated Betway Premiership clash is scheduled for Wednesday evening at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium in Durban. Kick-off is set for 19h30.
