Pirates Land Kiwi Keeper: Dublin Boon Completes Switch From Stellenbosch
The agency of Dublin Boon has confirmed that the goalkeeper has signed a contract with Orlando Pirates, marking a swift move from Stellenbosch FC to the Betway Premiership champions.
Boon’s representatives posted the announcement on social media, stating: “Chapter for our client @dub_bn19 joining the @officialpsl_za champions @orlandopirates.”
“Thank you to @stellenbosch_fc for the professionalism and role in Dublin’s development thus far. The best is yet to come.”
The 21-year-old New Zealand goalkeeper joined Stellenbosch FC from A-League side Wellington Phoenix in August last year when his contract expired in July, but his stay at the Cape Winelands club proved brief as the Buccaneers moved to secure his services.
Boon grew up in Canterbury and played his junior football at Nomads United and Christchurch United before making his Nomads first-team debut as a 15-year-old. He spent the 2023 season with Roda JC in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football, before signing his first professional contract with Wellington Phoenix.
During the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season, Boon served as the club’s third-string goalkeeper and was an unused substitute for seven A-League matches following the season-ending injury to Alby Kelly-Heald.
His arrival at Pirates adds further depth to the goalkeeping department, who recently parted ways with Melusi Buthelezi.
