Pirates’ 10-year drought over, SA coach eager for bigger

After winning his first major trophy in Eswatini, a South African tactician coach is now targeting the next logical step, which would see his team compete against some of the continent’s big next season.
Selaotse Mosala became a hero when he guided Moneni Pirates to a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Mbabane Highlanders AM by to claim the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup at the Mavuso Stadium on Sunday.
In the process, the former University of Pretoria coach also helped the club end a 10-year trophy drought after they had last won a trophy in 2015.
Providing a sweet taste to the triumph is the fact he got the better of his former team following his stint with Highlanders last term.
Mosala is now smelling more blood in the Mountain Kingdom and is eager to take Pirates to the most prestigious club competition in Africa.
“The credit should go to players and the entire management. The team is well-run and players get paid on time and deserve all the success,” said an elated Mosala, speaking to KickOff via telephone on Tuesday.
“The fans are magnificent. They love their team. The club last won a trophy in 2025 and they deserve the happiness.
“There was nothing to prove against Mbabane Highlanders; you don’t take things personally in football. I was there last season and we move on.

“My focus now is [on] helping the team qualify for the CAF tournament next season. We have a good team and great support from the management. The win on Sunday was a morale booster.
“We now need to start focusing on the league which is set to start soon,” he went on.
Highlanders AM are currently under the tutelage of another South African coach, Floyd Mogale.
