A 56-year-old man was killed after being struck by a taxi in the France area of Pietermaritzburg this morning. Just after 11am, Mi7 Emergency Medical Services received reports of a motor vehicle accident and dispatched paramedics to the scene.

On arrival, Mi7 medics found the pedestrian had sustained fatal injuries. He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased at the scene.

It is alleged that the taxi involved then attempted to leave the area and was involved in a second collision a short distance away.

The taxi driver was not injured and remained on scene with the police. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding both incidents.

We pass our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.
