Ngizwe Mchunu Confirms Bhinca Festival Cancellation Amidst EFF Clash

Controversial media personality Ngizwe Mchunu has officially confirmed the cancellation of his highly anticipated Bhinca Heritage and Maskandi Festival, which was scheduled to take place in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal. The decision follows a series of violent confrontations between his supporters and members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the area.

Tensions escalated significantly on Friday when Mchunu and his team were preparing the venue at the Dube Village Sports Field. According to Mchunu, his security personnel were forced to discharge an AK-47 into the air after identifying armed individuals within an approaching group of EFF supporters.

We were simply trying to set up for a cultural celebration, but we were met with aggression and intimidation that made it impossible to proceed safely.

The EFF, which was simultaneously hosting its provincial manifesto launch at the nearby JL Dube Stadium, had previously vowed to block Mchunu’s event, claiming it posed a security risk to their own proceedings. Police were forced to intervene as the situation threatened to spiral into further violence, leading to the eventual cancellation of the festival to prevent loss of life.

Mchunu has expressed his disappointment, stating that the cancellation is a blow to the cultural community, while the EFF has maintained that their actions were necessary to ensure the safety of their members and the success of their political rally.
