Kwanele Foundation’s Sibisi blasts Ramaphosa over GBV at Ekurhuleni protest

The Kwanele Foundation’s founder, Lerato Sibisi, has launched a scathing attack on President Cyril Ramaphosa, accusing him of failing to adequately address the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa. Speaking during a protest in Ekurhuleni, Sibisi expressed her deep frustration with the government’s perceived inaction.

We are tired of empty promises. President Ramaphosa speaks about GBV as if it is a priority, but the reality on the ground is that women and children are still being slaughtered daily. Where is the political will?

Sibisi highlighted the lack of resources for victims and the slow pace of justice for survivors of abuse. She called for more tangible interventions, including better-equipped police stations and specialized courts to handle GBV cases more efficiently.

The President needs to stop treating GBV as a side issue. It is a national crisis that requires urgent, decisive action, not just speeches at summits. We demand accountability and we demand it now.

The protest, which saw a significant turnout of activists and community members, served as a platform to demand systemic changes to how the state handles violence against women and children.
