Kanalelo Takes Over Bottom-of-the-Log Gallants Ahead of Pirates Clash

Soccer Laduma can confirm that former Mamelodi Sundowns keeper Ronnie Kanalelo has taken over as the head coach of struggling Premier Soccer League side Marumo Gallants.
This publication has been informed that the Namibian was introduced to the players at Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sports Ground — the team’s training base — on Monday morning. According to a source at the club, Kanalelo appeared excited to step in to improve the team’s precarious position.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa are at the bottom of the standings after six matches, having managed a couple of draws while losing the rest — a dire run of results that ultimately cost his predecessor his job.
“We met him before training. The management said he’s our head coach moving forward,” said a source at the club.
Kanalelo, who played for Sundowns from 1997 to 2005, replaces Phuti Mohafe, who was fired last week due to the poor results. The 55-year-old was in charge of African Stars in his home country before accepting the challenge at Gallants.
His first test will be against the reigning champions Orlando Pirates on Sunday, 20 September, at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg — a daunting assignment for any new coach, let alone one taking over a side rooted to the foot of the table.
Soccer Laduma contacted the club for comment on Kanalelo’s appointment but did not get a response.
