Driver Killed In Targeted Assassination: Oakford – KZN
A 33-year-old man was shot and killed during a targeted assassination in Oakford – KZN this afternoon (Friday, 22/05/2026).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls for assistance after residents witnessed a lone gunman opening fire on the driver of a blue Toyota Corolla.
Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival located the victim slumped across the driver and passenger seats of the vehicle.
He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body and face. He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased on scene.
According to witnesses, the assailant was an Indian male armed with an AK-47 assault rifle who arrived in a silver VW T-Cross.
After opening fire, the perpetrator fled the scene in the vehicle.
Multiple high calibre spent rifle cartridges were recovered at the scene.
Residents informed Reaction Officers that the deceased lived a short distance away from where the murder occurred and was allegedly involved in informal trading, however the exact nature of his business activities could not be confirmed.
The motive for the killing has not been established at this stage.
