ACTIVE PROTEST ACTION AND ROAD CLOSURE AT PROVINCIAL ROAD & K43 (ENNERDALE, FINETOWN, AND LENASIA SOUTH)
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) warns motorists of ongoing protest action along Provincial Road and the K43 affecting traffic moving through the Ennerdale, Finetown, and Lenasia South areas.
Protesters have completely barricaded both Provincial Road and the K43 using burning tyres and rocks. Information gathered on-scene indicates that residents are allegedly demonstrating over illegal electricity connections in the area, requesting immediate intervention from City Power and relevant municipal stakeholders to clear the illegal infrastructure.
JMPD officers are currently on the scene to monitor the situation and divert traffic. The situation remains tense, and motorists are strongly urged to exercise extreme caution or avoid the area entirely.
Motorists travelling through or around the affected areas are advised to use the following detours:
• Golden Highway: Divert via Wimbledon Street or Cosmos Street toward the Golden Highway to bypass the K43 blockades.
• N1 Freeway: Motorists heading North or South can utilise the N1 Highway as a bypass, entering/exiting at Grasmere Toll Plaza or the R558 interchange.
• R558 & Walter Road: Traffic approaching from Lenasia can turn onto the R558 and proceed via Walter Road toward Lawley and Ennerdale.
Expect major travel delays along secondary corridors connecting Lenasia South, Finetown, and Ennerdale.
Do not attempt to force entry through barricades or approach burning structures.
Adhere strictly to signals and detours established by JMPD officers on duty.
Updates will be issued as soon as the roadway is cleared and safe for public traffic.
