Just In: Female correctional services officer was shot and killed

UPDATE:

Police in Modimolle, Limpopo, have launched a manhunt after a female correctional services officer was shot and killed on Tuesday morning, 12 May 2026.

According to reports, the officer was walking from her rented accommodation to the Modimolle Correctional Centre along Nelson Mandela Road at around 06:30 when she was confronted by an unknown man.

An altercation allegedly followed, during which the suspect shot her twice in the upper body.

The officer, who was temporarily residing in Modimolle, was declared dead at the scene. The suspect fled on foot and remains at large, while the motive for the attack is still unknown.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Thembi Hadebe, has instructed specialised police units to intensify the search for the suspect.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact Colonel Simon Mogale, Crime Stop, the nearest police station, or use the MySAPSApp as investigations continue.
