Julius Malema under siege, and the real reason load shedding disappeared
The political landscape in South Africa is currently dominated by the mounting pressure on Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, who finds himself under significant scrutiny amid various legal and political challenges.
Simultaneously, the country has experienced a notable reprieve from the long-standing crisis of load shedding, which has largely disappeared from the daily lives of South Africans.
The disappearance of load shedding is primarily attributed to a combination of demand destruction and the rapid, widespread adoption of private self-generation, rather than a sudden recovery in Eskom’s generation capacity.
Analysis indicates that while Eskom has made some operational adjustments, the shift in energy consumption patterns—driven by households and businesses investing in solar and battery storage—has effectively reduced the strain on the national grid to a point where rotational power cuts are no longer required.
