Joburg’s coalition of the unwilling: five leaders on one broken city
Tempers flared as leaders of the ANC, DA, EFF, IFP and ActionSA clashed over service delivery, housing and immigration in a fiery debate regarding the future of Johannesburg.
The city, which has been hit hard by unemployment, immigration issues, poor infrastructure, rising levels of violent crime and vandalism, and a lack of service delivery, remains at the center of a political struggle.
The debate highlighted the deep divisions between the parties as they presented competing visions for how to address the years of coalition instability that have plagued the municipality.
