Orlando Pirates winger Gamphani Lungu has been handed deserved rewards for his efforts at his new employers following his off-season move from Siwelele.
Lungu has been impressive at Pirates scoring four goals (plus one assist) in seven appearances.
That has meant no hesitation from Zambia’s national team coach George Lwandamina.

Lungu has been named as the only South African-based player in the 27-member squad for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
They start away in Algeria on September 25 and then play at home against Togo four days later.
Lungu – who has not never been a regular in the national team – has been drawing admiration from his former coach Wedson Nyirenda.
“Gamphani is the success story of a patient and highly disciplined professional,” points out Wedson Nyirenda, speaking as part of an interview featured in the KICK OFF magazine currently on sale.
Nyirenda was the Zambian national team coach when Lungu was coming up and then had him in his books at ZANACO after recruiting him from lower division club National Assembly.
“When I came back to Zambia from Beira (where he coached Clube Ferroviário da Beira) to take up the national team job in 2017, I gave the young man his first call-up to camp.
“What struck me is that he came to camp in time and I had a word with him.
“I told him that I didn’t call him to outrightly play but to show him my confidence and make him know that I acknowledge his talent.
“After the end of that three-day camp, he went to South Africa.
“I didn’t see much of him but knew that he had gone to SuperSport United where he persevered and fought his way through the ranks.
“Of note is that he has mastered playing as many positions on the pitch which include right-back, left-back, right-wing, left-wing, second striker and top striker.
“Why we have not been using this son of the soil in Zambia, I don’t know.
“Last season, I saw him playing and he was instrumental and a great figure of that team.
“I am so confident that he will help Pirates because this young man is a simply a professional,” says Nyirenda, who is familiar with South Africa having played for Kaizer Chiefs and then coached Baroka.
