Influential Mofokeng Helps Union Secure Big Europa Win

Relebohile Mofokeng was influential for Union Saint-Gilloise, who secured a 4-0 win over Hapoel Be’er Sheva to extend their unbeaten run in the UEFA Europa League.

The South African winger returned to the Union starting line-up after coming off the bench in their cup win over the weekend, where he managed to provide an assist.

The Belgian outfit were looking to get back on the winning trail in Europe after playing to a 1-1 draw against Spanish outfit Real Sociedad last week.

The hosts dominated possession for most of the first half, but had to wait until first-half stoppage time to get the breakthrough when Raul Florucz found the back of the net from the penalty spot.

Mofokeng was the heart of the second goal on the night as he picked up the assist by playing in Guilherme Smith, who found the back of the net via deflection on the hour mark.

The Belgian Pro League side were able to add a third goal with 13 minutes left on the clock as Dylan Aquino latched onto a loose ball in the box before rifling the ball home to open his scoring account for the season.

Mofokeng’s evening came to an end with 11 minutes left on the clock after a lively showing for the home side, as he now looks ahead to Sunday’s league encounter against Cercle Brugge, where he could countryman Luke le Roux.

Union did go on to add a fourth goal as Smith completed his brace in the final ten minutes to round off a big win, which extends the team’s unbeaten run the Europa League.
