‘He was dreaming to play for Pirates’

Aug 18, 2026 – 06:05 pm
By Siya Ndlela

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has delivered his verdict on the progress of winger Daniel Msendami, who was on the scoresheet when the Buccaneers defeated Chippa United on Sunday.

The Zimbabwean international struck late to seal a resounding 3-0 victory against Chippa United at the Kings Park Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The highly-rated winger has endured a demanding and tough start to life in the black and white jersey since his high-profile move to Mayfair, struggling to establish his rhythm in his initial outings.

However, the Sea Robbers’ tactical mastermind revealed his immense relief following the goal, stating that he is firmly hoping this breakthrough performance will drastically change the attacker’s fortunes and unlock his full potential moving forward.

Orlando Pirates Coach on why the whole team was happy for Daniel Msendami after he scored his first goal for the Buccaneers.

“I think the behaviour of the whole team, of the technical staff to go towards him, shows how this boy is appreciated in the dressing room, how this boy has a big heart for the team.”

“He’s somebody who was dreaming to play for Pirates. I know coming into a big club like that sometimes is not easy; sometimes you have to be patient because there is a lot of competition”

“But he’s getting there; he’s holding on, he’s working, and we start to see the benefit of his work.”

“I was very happy about his goal, and it’s very important for his confidence, but I have always had trust in him because I know him from the previous club (Marumo Gallants) and I know what he can bring to the club….”

“He has a different profile from the other ones, and I am sure we can use him for the other games.”

The win takes Pirates to the top of the Betway Premiership on goal difference, slightly ahead of rivals Kaizer Chiefs, who, like Pirates, have collected two wins and a draw from their opening three matches.

Attention now swiftly turns to cup duties as Orlando Pirates prepare to clash against Sekhukhune United in the MTN8 semi-final first leg, scheduled for a 15:00 kick-off on Saturday, 22 August 2026, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
