Five things to know about why ‘Gagash’ and wife failed to get bail again
A Tshwane metro police officer and his wife accused of stealing R11m from deceased estates were denied bail for the second time on Thursday.
This was after Peter “Gagash” Nonyane and his wife Charlotte Tibana had gone to the high court to appeal the decision by the magistrate court to deny them bail.
Nonyane is a Tshwane metro police officer while Tibana is lawyer. It is alleged the pair stole about R11m from 15 deceased estates. They face more than 100 charges linked to alleged fraud, theft and money-laundering involving deceased estates.
The couple had approached the high court after magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi denied them bail on September 4.
However, their second bail bid also fell flat when Judge Carrim Pillay dismissed their appeal.
