EFF hits back at AfriForum over Malema’s crimen injuria prosecution
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have responded to the news that their leader, Julius Malema, is set to face prosecution for crimen injuria, following a successful push by AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit.
The EFF maintains that the charges are politically motivated and intended to silence the party’s leadership through the abuse of the legal system.
The prosecution stems from remarks made by Malema regarding an Eastern Cape school principal, whom he publicly accused of rape. AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit intervened after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) initially declined to pursue the matter, eventually convincing the NPA to proceed with the case.
AfriForum has consistently argued that no individual, regardless of their political standing, is above the law when it comes to making defamatory and harmful accusations against citizens.
The EFF has vowed to defend its leader in court, characterizing the legal action as part of a broader campaign by AfriForum to undermine the party’s influence and distract from its political agenda.
