The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have responded to the announcement that their leader, Julius Malema, is set to face prosecution for crimen injuria. The case stems from remarks made by Malema regarding an Eastern Cape school principal, whom he publicly accused of rape.

AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit has been instrumental in pushing for this legal action, successfully convincing the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to proceed with the charges. The lobby group maintains that Malema’s public accusations were unfounded and defamatory.

The EFF has dismissed the prosecution as a politically motivated attempt to silence their leader and undermine the party’s influence.

In their statement, the EFF emphasized that they would defend Malema vigorously in court, arguing that the charges are part of a broader campaign by AfriForum to target the party’s leadership. The matter is expected to be heard in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
