DA explains why it will vote against EFF motion of no confidence in Thoko Didiza; SA not surprised

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that it will vote against the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) motion of no confidence in National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza, stating that her removal would be “premature.”

The DA parliamentary leader George Michalakis said the party believed removing Didiza would be “premature” and would not be the right way to strengthen parliament.

The motion, brought by the EFF, centers on allegations that Didiza failed to defend Parliament, specifically citing her decision not to oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa’s urgent interdict application in the Western Cape High Court to halt the parliamentary impeachment process against him.

Despite the DA’s previous criticisms regarding Didiza’s handling of the impeachment proceedings, the party has maintained that ousting her at this stage is not the appropriate course of action to address their concerns or to strengthen the institution of Parliament.
