DA explains why it will vote against EFF motion of no confidence in Thoko Didiza
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that it will vote against the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) motion of no confidence in National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza, stating that her removal would be premature.
The motion, which was tabled by the EFF, centers on allegations regarding the Speaker’s handling of legal matters linked to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s impeachment inquiry. Specifically, the EFF has criticized Didiza for her decision not to oppose the President’s application for an interdict to halt parliamentary proceedings.
The DA has announced that it will vote against the EFF’s motion of no confidence in National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza because her removal would be “premature.”
With the African National Congress (ANC) and the DA both indicating their opposition to the motion, the EFF’s attempt to remove the Speaker is widely expected to fail. The two parties, which are part of the government of national unity, hold a significant majority in Parliament, making it unlikely that the EFF will secure the simple majority required to pass the motion.
