Cyril Ramaphosa vows to pull out all stops to catch Ekurhuleni killers; South Africans are sceptical

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has directed that the investigations into the murders of six women in Ekurhuleni be prioritised by police. Over the weekend, police revealed the discovery of the bodies of four women in the same area over a period of approximately two months. Two more bodies were subsequently discovered in different areas of Ekurhuleni on Monday (14 September 2026) and this morning (Tuesday, 15 September 2026).

Our law enforcement agencies are working urgently to establish the facts, keep communities safe, and bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice. I have spoken to the Minister of Police and the Acting National Police Commissioner, who have briefed me on the investigation.

The President has vowed that no stone will be left unturned in the pursuit of those responsible for these heinous acts, yet many South Africans remain sceptical of the government’s ability to curb the rising tide of gender-based violence in the country.
