Coveted demand to chase for Mailula at Sundowns

The second stint that Cassius Mailula has started at Mamelodi Sundowns has kept him with a scoring demand to maintain at the club.

Mailula’s two goals in his first three games back at Sundowns have meant he keeps up with a globally acclaimed scoring ratio of a goal every two matches.

An average of a goal with every second appearance is envied worldwide and is what the 25-year-old has delivered while reporting for duty at Chloorkop.

The Limpopo province forward has scored 17 goals (plus four assists) in 34 matches for Sundownns.

Mailula’s cause is helped by that he flew through his debut season in the PSL.

This was in the 2022/23 season when he scored 15 in 31 games and didn’t at once look like a rookie.

He was most productive in the league banging nine in 17 games (1005 minutes played).

This meant every 112 minutes that he played were accompanied by a goal.

It was no surprise clubs from abroad came calling and he signed for Toronto.

The fresh challenge facing Mailula is maintaining the high returns for Sundowns after spending the past three years with lower returns in the MLS, Morocco, and Belgium.

“He has always done the business for us…we know he is going to be banging a lot of goals this season,” pointed out his teammate Grant Kekana this week.

Should Mailula maintain that scoring pace then his return to Bafana Bafana will be guaranteed.

His last appearance for the senior national team came just prior to leaving for the MLS.
